Gympie solar farm gets Council approval for $2 billion project
Gympie Regional Council green-lighted the $2 billion Lower Wonga solar farm project this week, adding to Queensland’s superiority in solar uptake nationally. Built over the next four years, the Gympie solar farm will create 450 construction jobs, 12 permanent operational positions and major business opportunities, council says.
Councillors unanimously backed the project, which is expected to generate 350MW from two million solar panels.

Solar Q plans to build a solar power plant in Gympie, Queensland, Australia. The project involves the construction of 800MW solar power plant on 572ha of land. It includes the construction of a substation, solar panel platforms, the installation of solar panels, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines. The project will be developed in phases. The first phase includes the construction of 350MW solar power plant. In April 2017, Solar Q submitted the planning application to Gympie Council and are awaiting approvals. As of October 2017, planning activities are underway.
