And through our remote monitoring service, we’re available to help customers maximise the benefits of their ongoing energy generation and usage, too.

How do I choose the right sized system?

With on-grid solar storage systems, no one-sized system suits every property. The size of the on-grid system you end up choosing will depend on several factors – for example, your daily energy consumption, the size of your home (and roof, as this is where your solar array will go), and where you live.

As a general rule of thumb, we advise that you follow three steps:

  1. Calculate Your Daily Energy Needs:

To begin – (honestly) examine your energy bills, assess your household’s energy consumption, and determine how much energy you require per day in kWh. Figuring out this key information will give you a great starting point to help decide what size solar storage system you need, to cover your energy demand. Remember to analyse your bills over an entire year because your energy usage will vary from season to season, depending on your heating or cooling requirements and other lifestyle factors.

  1. Consider Your Grid Feed-In Capabilities:

One of the advantages of on-grid solar storage systems is that any excess electricity produced by the system can be fed back into the grid – earning you credit on your electricity bill. Your feed-in capabilities are a vital consideration to keep in mind. A larger system size surpassing your energy consumption could be beneficial – but it depends on the feed-in tariff offered by your retailer. There are also limits to how much power can be fed back into the grid, so ensure you understand the specifics of your energy provider and where you’re located.

  1. Evaluate the Characteristics of Your Property for Solar

One of the biggest mistakes we see Australian people make, is failing to consider the physical features of their property – such as the roof size, orientation of the building, and the level of shading and sun exposure. It is crucial to properly evaluate these factors – because the orientation of the building and the amount of sun vs shaded area will dictate how much energy your solar system can generate. In Australia, a north-facing roof with no shade is optimal conditions. Also, note any new construction or growing trees in the area that could cause more shading in the future – because this is something many people miss when installing solar systems in their homes.

Another crucial factor to consider is your future energy needs. If you plan to extend your property or you’re considering switching to an electric vehicle (where you’ll need a lot of electricity to charge your car) – this will of course significantly impact your energy consumption.

Why should I use an on-grid solar system for my home or business?

On-grid solar systems offer you several advantages, such as the following:

  • They typically incur less upfront set-up costs than an off-grid system.
  • They allow you to offset your energy bills and earn more money by selling excess electricity back to the grid.
  • You have peace of mind that you are always connected and will always have access to power – even if your solar panels are not producing electricity.

With RedEarth’s industry-leading on-grid solar systems, you will also benefit from:

  • Best-in-class storage solutions
  • Easy installation
  • Advanced remote monitoring
  • Comprehensive warranties
  • Products compliant with Australian quality standards.

What components come as part of the RedEarth Energy on-grid solar system?

All of RedEarth’s products are designed, engineered, assembled, and tested at our state-of-the-art factory in Brisbane — and each component is fully compliant with Australian standards.

Our on-grid solar storage systems come with several key components, including:

  • Solar PV Panels: Captures sunlight and converts it into direct current (DC) electricity.
  • A grid-tie inverter: Converts the DC electricity into AC electricity to be used in your home or business.
  • Monitoring system with 4G SIM card: The monitoring system helps track your energy usage and production in real time, giving you ultimate control over your electricity consumption and costs.

On-grid vs. off-grid solar – which system is better for me?

The choice between on-grid and off-grid solar systems depends on your answer to the following questions:

  • How big is your home and how much electricity do you need?
  • Where are you located?
  • What are your energy priorities?

If you have reliable access to the grid, and you want the security of having backup energy, an on–grid storage system is perfect for you. Moreover, with this option – you can earn money from your excess energy through feed-in tariffs (as well as drawing power from the grid when your system hasn’t generated enough).

On the other hand, if you want complete energy independence or live in a particularly remote area in Australia – an off-grid system is better for you. In 2023, it is becoming increasingly popular for people to seek complete independence and separate themselves from the grid – with more Australians now choosing to create a Private Power Plant (PPP). A Private Power Plant allows you to take the power into your own hands, and instead of selling excess energy to retailers on the grid, use it how you would like to and trade it at wholesale prices to make a more significant profit.

How much does an on-grid system with RedEarth Energy cost?

The cost of an on-grid solar system will vary depending on the size and specifications that you require. At RedEarth, we offer a variety of on-grid solutions – from the SunRise Mini (designed for smaller residential needs) to power the powerful SunRise 3-phase for those that need more power. We even have the DropBear, an all-in-one power system suitable for tiny country homes up to large enterprises.

Every system is different from the next, with each purposely created to serve a certain type of property. Therefore, the price of an on-grid systems varies. Generally, an on-grid solar storage system with RedEarth Energy will cost between $3,000 and $10,000 – including installation.
